What is Quilling or Paper Filigree?
Quilling is a very old craft. Its name comes from the practice of trimming the gold edges from books, and then winding the narrow strips of paper around feather quills, using the quill for the tool. Once rolled into circles and pinched into various shapes, the paper is used as texture and detail in pictures. The Quilled Wedding Invitation Keepsake was my very first try at quilling in 1975. I was hooked... My WildLife and WildFlower designs use my very own technique carefully placing the quillwork as the details behind a simple cut-out. The Quilling simulates the feathers in the ducks and birds, the scales on the fish, the veins in the wildflowers, and the fur on the moose. The Herons and Loons are my favorite WildLife pieces. And now I have big beautiful Landscapes with every mountain, tree and river recreated with tiny rolls of paper. I hope you enjoy my website and I look forward to working with you on that special wedding invitation keepsake. I can do up that baby announcement or a 50th anniversary card for another very special gift. Check out my wedding page and then you can Contact me and we can talk about it. I always love the challenge of a new custom piece, what's your favorite bird, duck, wildlife? Or maybe a fantasy piece, like my Mermaid. Ask, you might just love it and I know I will enjoy the challenge! Welcome to my Studio on the Web. |
